THE JESUS PROJECT.

during a catch up with my friend, she told me about something called #thejesusproject over on ann voskamp's blog 'a holy experience'. basically, it's a project to memorise verses of the bible. last year, they did romans, and this year the theme is soul sustaining verses about jesus from the gospel of john. the idea is to memorise a verse over a week (or two if you'd like) and by the end of the year, you have these verses to use as your sword.
i love this idea, especially because one of the sole purposes of my chalkboard wall was to display a bible verse along with memos and important dates, and this project means i won't be searching for a verse, and it has a purpose.

there are also printable versions of the verses if you don't have a chalkboard, or simply would just prefer them, i think they're beautiful and i'll definitely be printing out my favourites to frame. having the verses around your house and out where you're living is something i've always loved and wanted, rather than them being closed away in a bible on your bedside table. they catch you and fill your heart with joy and love, and i love that.

self portrait.

as soon as the words "self portrait" are uttered, i shudder. i don't like my face - i pretty much don't like anything about me, but we'll not get into that - so the thought of having to take a self portrait and to then have that in my portfolio is incredibly daunting. i had fifteen minutes to think of what i was going to do and go and do it. i knew i didn't want my face in it, but since i don't like anything else about myself, i wanted to incorporate movement, unwillingness and secrecy.
i tried one shot with a slow shutter speed, but you could see my face and the movement made it even worse than it already is, so i decided to go the opposite route and try fast shutter speed. i ended up with three images that look good on their own - one is even my profile picture on twitter - but together, they incorporate the movement i wanted to show, just more peacefully.
i'm glad i didn't cop out of this assignment & used my imagination and what i've learned so far to create this self portrait.
i'm incredibly inspired to see how i can grow and change and become more confident in my photography during 2014; i'm thinking a few photography challenges may be in the works. you know what i'm like though, i'll post my aims for the new year and (hopefully won't) fail at the majority.

when i'm in the shower, i write blog posts in my head. some of them are essays, most of them never come to anything. but they help me process life. reciting to myself an event or a thought process explains things to me. last night, i was washing my hair with medicated shampoo for the third time when my 'internal essay' began. 99% of the time, i never think of them again, or i forget what i had thought but i really wanted to write these thoughts down.

the fact that i had to sign into my account just shows how long it's been since i have blogged. but to be honest, life has been pretty repetitive and nothing much has happened.
on monday i start college (officially anyway) and my summer assignment was 'summer'. here are the 10 photos i chose that i feel represent my summer.

type.

well, not type i suppose, but typography in a way. i have wanted to buy a pen and nib for quite a while now. if you know me, you know my love of font and typography and how i sit and analyse different people's handwriting and font choice and how it makes their writing come across - trust me, it's probably not that interesting, but it fascinates me.

anyway, i expected them to cost quite a bit and was happily surprised that they were incredibly affordable. the whole nib, pen and ink didn't even come to £10 - what a bargain. i have been playing around with writing different things over the past couple of days and i feel like i'm starting to get the hang of it - i'm still having spits a lot though. once i've got used to the way it works, i'm hopefully going to learn some "proper"calligraphy and hopefully add watercolour drawings into the mix (i can dream)

is there anything you've been wanting to take up? do you use a nib and ink or watercolours? tips would be great!
